Special wishes for the NEW YEAR...

Dear student,

The New Year has just started and with it lots of inner promises and new commitments come to our minds.... It seems that every year we are given the chance to start something new, to change what is not right or what we consider that should be altered... What are your commitments for the new year? Do you intend to change something in your life? What are your wishes for 2007?...

"It seems that every year we are given the chance to start something new"
that chances are given all longer the year, why just remember of it on the first weeks of January?
we shouldn't wait for a new year to change what's wrong, but change it on the moment we notice it..
People are too superstitious.. is not wearing new lingerie and eating raisins on the 31st december that life will smile to us.
We must do something more than just wish.. we must fight for it!

Raquel,
:) Finally you wrote a positive comment!... YES, you are right! We don't need a special date to change our life. The important thing here is to have the courage to make positive changes! Our life is full of possibilities... But still, I'd like to know about your new commitments for the new year (if you have any, of course!)... Any special wish?...

Keep writing! See you around here!

hum plans for 2007? not many.. things will happen when they have to, on their time; there's no need of being planning the most of the things now..
but.. hum.. I'm projecting to go to Super Bock Super Rock and Paredes de Coura festivals, some other concerts, and travel to London and maybe Luxembourg too on the summer. The rest will happen if it have to.

what about you? any commitment/wish/whatever for this year?

As a special request of my favourite teacher on the whole planet I decided after one year of absence of this beloved school to come back to life and once again write in the language that is still one of my trademarks.
I am a 19 year old student currently on FEUP,the engineering university of Porto.I entered this year and I am having the time of my life...nevertheless I miss the school where my roots are.
For this year all I wish is to get approved on each and everyone of my classes, obtain the basic qualities of a good engineer, and more in a personal and maybe a little selfish note,I would like to one day,get up on a stage on the school of my roots and sing and play the songs that left a brand on me.
For now I don't intend to change nothing in my life...except for starting to comment more on this blog as it was requested by teacher Filipa.
I would like to leave a request to all of her students...
Treasure her, love her,so that she can be for you what she was for me...the most incredible teacher I have ever met and I think I will never another alike.
With this in mind I wish all the bloggers the best in 2007.May the stars shine on your faces and let them make you strong

Pedro,

You are the second student that has already left this school and who is participating in this small project, which means that somehow the special ones keep coming back and are never away!... It seems that we never forget what once had some meaning to us... Everytime this happens to me, I am caught by surprise... I am never ready to realise that this job has so many good things...! We usually consider only the bad ones, but young people like you keep showing me that teaching is really a rewarding job because we have the chance of meeting so many wonderful hearts, so many youngsters who show us everyday that we are always growing up with them and that we should be grateful for having the privilege of experiencing this in life!

Now, back to your projects! I'm very happy to know that all your dreams seem to come true little by little! What is important is that you never give up and that you put your talents on the way! I'm sure that you will love this college period. Try to live it to the most, because those are times that you will never forget... Give your best in your studies and enjoy the experience of being a university student!

I also hope that you keep visiting me in this blog and sharing your ideas with all of us! Your contribution means a lot to me!... See you around...

Only the second?I find it hard to believe.
Everyone used to tell me that my job as a student was to learn the good or the hard way,to obey our teachers even if at the time it seemed unfair and overload of work and respect them for what they are:Human beings with a lot of heart and experience.
And it's good to know that these little things mean a lot to someone that I don't only as a teacher but a friend that I can treasure for many years to come.In a period of my life when eveything seems hard and cold, these little things make me warm and give me the strenght to keep on moving..It's true when they say life is made of the little things like this.
And I promise this:I'll keep visiting the blog, commenting it or respond to what you might say.
I promise to do my best on this new life.
And furthermore I promise to come and visit you at school.
It's the least I can do for someone who has given me so much and it seems I can't repay enough!!:-)

As you said..See you around

You bet I will.I am currently waiting for a friend to have lunch and go home.Kinda frustrated with something that happened but there is no need to expose it on a blog.Even if it seems that few people write here, that doesn't mean that someone might be reading and I don't wish a nice blog loke this to become a Big Brother.
Seems that this little blog space as become larger than life for me...It's like it is a special place like a bar or restaurant that we feel very comfortable and we always want to return to as soon as possible.I know the supposed use of this blog but I have to share here a true story that happened right here on FEUP a couple of years ago.
It was a test day for some students of Civil Engineering.A class made of mostly man in a big auditorium with a projector on the roof and a screen on front. As I was saying there was a test on that day,and the questions were not on paper but on a slide that the theacher(male teacher)was showing.
Everyone had their pens and paper..they read the questions and started answering. As I teacher you might understand how boring it can be to stand around and do nothing,so this theacher decided to view some webpages to occupy his time(can you guess what kind of webpages?).The projector,of course, was still on and one by one the students realized what was happening until on of them asked the teacher if those pictures were part of the test too.
Needless is to say that the teacher left the auditorium in a rush and was fired a month after

Funny story!... That is the kind of teacher that I was never proud of meeting... it's a shame to all of us... My son is on the 5th form and I keep meeting absolutely stupid and irresponsible teachers... It seems that some of the comments that people make about us are fair and correct. Fortunately, there are some others who are real professionals and know the true meaning of being a teacher... I really think that this career is not for everyone...

And it's not...I have seen some examples and I had classes with some of them now and on high-school some seem to know what they are talking about but can't transmit it so we can understand..some other don't know what in God's name they are talking about but act like they do.
It's a noble profession that seems to have overload of teachers..but if we count the ones that really matter and have capabilites we are short on staff.
Things will change, not with this current government and I don't wish to talk trash about a woman who doesn't even deserve to be spoken of...I wish she is released from duty..and fast. We have enough troubles as it is

It seems that most of us agree on one thing: a special wish for this new year would be that the woman in charge of education in this country may be replaced urgently...! Thank you PEDRO for your comment!
